CEO SuccessSpark Brand
Jackee Butesta Batanda is a short story writer, journalist and entrepreneur. She is the Founder and Senior Managing Partner of SuccessSpark Brand Ltd. She was inspired to start the company after seeing the influx of many poorly written memoirs, autobiographies and biographies from African social and business leaders flooding the market, which could have been better written and presented, so SuccessSpark Brand provides a variety of writing services to help 'would be' authors bring new stories to the market.
As an extension of this, she is finishing the construction of a writers' house, The Blue Marble, to provide a safe, intellectual space for writers. In 2019, Jackee was named among top 40 under 40 inspirational Ugandans and was the 2018/2019 continental winner- training and education category at the Women in Business and Government awarded in Johannesburg, South Africa. She is a contributor in the New Daughters of Africa anthology, a seminal body of work that captures voices of 200 women of African descent. The Africa Regional winner of the 2003 Commonwealth short story Competition, her stories have been performed on the BBC World service, BBC3 and radio stations throughout the commonwealth as well as appearing in various international anthologies. She has written for publications including the New York Times, The Boston Globe, Guardian (UK), The Mail & Guardian, The Sunday Times and Sunday Independent (SA) and Aljazeera Magazine. She was the recipient of a 2010 Uganda Young Achievers Award, shortlisted for the 2012 Trust Women Journalist Award and named by the Times (London) in 2012 as one of twenty women shaping the future of Africa. She was named among 39 writers under 40 from Sub-Saharan Africa likely to shape the future of African literature. She has run writing workshops in the US, UK, South Africa, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya and Malawi. She is currently at work on a novel, a short story collection and is ghost writing two books.

Content Development and Client Relations Manager
Rachel is the client relations and events coordinator with SuccessSpark Brand where she brings a wealth of over seven years experience as a dedicated and knowledgeable client relations manager and lecturer in the banking and educational sector. She has worked with a myriad of clients both local and international. She boasts of impeccable communications, events planning, and customer liaison skills. Rachel holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Makerere University Business School. She is a lover of the literary arts and loves to read in her pastime.
We opened our doors in April 2015 with a one-day book writing masterclass. The class of six students comprised of a manager of a well-known furniture shop, a high school teacher, a surgeon, a card maker/ decorator, a lawyer and marketer.
From the onset, we wanted to run small intimate classes in order to create a sense of community. We envisaged the students staying in touch after the workshops and continuing to encourage each other’s writing journey.
SuccessSparkBrand Limited purposed to run writing classes for people with a burning story to tell, who normally do not have access to the literary-run donor funded workshops nor have the time to go through the rigorous application processes that a number of these opportunities demand.
We were cognizant that there was a vibrant writing community out there surviving on the periphery of the mainstream literary writing communities. Many of these writers are lone soldiers working in solitude without access to constructive feedback. They are only powered by the burning need to tell their stories and often self-published books that still required work.
SuccessSpark Brand created packages to help aspiring writers by intervening early in the process and working with them to improve their writing, equipping them with the skills on to effectively brand themselves and monetize their work.
We also provide ghostwriting services, professional / business writing classes, book editing retreats, and publishing advisory services.
Mission: To inspire, empower and equip a new cadre of writers by providing the skills, tools, branding and marketing needed to bring new stories to the market.
Vision: SuccessSpark Brand envisions an African continent where legacy minded leaders tell their stories in book form.
